Chapter 14 reading response.
An argumentative essay, is a process of reasoning. Your goal is too assert the soundness of a debatable position, and sway people to agree with your perspective and support your point with evidence. you must need to understand the difference between persuasion and argumentation, analyzing your evidence, and gather and document evidence.
The kinds of evidence you use in your argumentative essay are very important as well in validating your point. These forms of evidence are facts, opinions which are accompanied by facts, and expert opinions. Facts are true, agreeable statements that can be verified. Opinions are judgments or beliefs that are not substantiated by proof. An expert opinion is used to back-up your opinion, it is best to make sure your expert opinion is a relative source of information from a credible person who professionalizes in in that subject.
The criteria you use for your evidence is just as important as the kinds of evidence you use. The evidence should be relevant to your argument, it should also be representative of your point, and your evidence should be sufficient enough to your point. Always remember to properly document the evidence by siting MLA.

Chapter 14 reading review

Chapter 14 READING RESPONSE!!!! :)

WHAT IS ARGUMENTATION?

Definition from text book- A process of reasoning that asserts the soundness of a debatable position, belief or conclusion.
Creating an argument such as; The Broncos are a better team than the Raiders. Well as biased as i may be, being a bronco fan myself, the statement is known to be a fact at this point. However, this matter can easily be argued with stats or history of teams success. So Argumentation is having valid knowledge to rebuke something and engage in a clear argument.
*REMEMBER* When developing your thesis, keep in mind that whatever you are writing about has to have enough grounds for plausible debate.
Make sure you know who your audience is, or at least what you intend your audience to be. Your end goal will be to persuade your readers of what you are claiming to be true, or arguing.

*IF YOU WANT YOUR READER TO BELIEVE WHAT YOU ARE WRITING, USE FACTS AND STATISTICS FROM VIABLE SOURCES*

-ALSO REMEMBER THAT ALL FACTS ARE OFTEN ACCOMPANIED BY OPINIONS. LEARN TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN WHAT  IS FACT AND WHAT IS OPINION OR BIAS.

Believing what YOU are writing is essential because than you can ignore any and all arguments against your stated claim.

FALLACIES- Illogical arguments which sound reasonable, but are dishonest and deceptive.

-Avoiding Fallacies in your writing is important, otherwise you lose credibility for what you are claiming. Your readers will likely become uninterested in what you are saying now because you are being illogical.

CHAPTER 14 is all about understanding how to complete your writing in a manner that persuades them, instead of turning them away from your claim. You have to be clear and precise; using facts and knowledge that leads your reader to believe they can trust your writing. Fallacies must be avoided and your argument must be debatable.

EDIT OF BENNETS Paper.

PEER EDITING REVIEW of Bennet's Rough draft essay-

I would have to say that the PDF website offered a greater amount of useful support and information than did the Mayo Clinic site. - This appears to be the thesis as he is stating what he is going to discuss in his essay.

Bennet was comparing the PDF site about Parkinson's to the Mayo clinic sight also about Parkinson's. These two are comparable in the fact that bennet mentions that the PDF is overall more helpful and had more information than the basic other one.
first subject-
-- More useful
-- More information
-- The resources communicate clearly.
--
--
Second Subject-
-- Cold clinical language found in this site
-- more like a wikipedia page.
--
--
--
They essay compared points in each paragraph. and the author used transition words to navigate his writing. the into paragraph could be improved perhaps by giving more detail about the second site. I thought the conclusion was the best part of the essay.

Complete with a thesis explaining briefly what you plan on discussing in the following paragraphs. After comes the body paragraphs which are just your support points formed into paragraphs. After that is the conclusion summing up all of the prior paragraphs. I am going to really focus on keeping my thoughts organized in a well thought out and informative compare and contrast essay.

Logical fallacy

a Logical fallacy is a term for something that is logical enough to believe before a argument of exaggeration is lead to undermine the value of the logical subject.
for example, seeing a bear walk on hind legs, then manipulating it to that you seen big foot himself.

Logical fallacies

Logical Fallacies

The term is preferred as logic is the use of valid reasoning and a fallacy is an argument that uses poor reasoning therefore the term logical fallacy is an oxymoron. However, the same terms are used in informal discourse to mean an argument which is problematic for any reason.

One example of a fallacy would be like a women saying "All men are pigs because I've been cheated on so many times." It is an argument that is invalid because their arguing something with opinionated reasoning. Keeping you're writing fallacy free will ensure you have nothing but valid points and arguments.

Chapter 11 review summary

In reading chapter 11, I learned that "comparing and contrasting" is used in everyday decision making and observing the benefits and the losses of said objects being compared and contrasted.
As well as how to properly recognize comparison and contrast, establish a basis for comparison, and selecting clear on-topic points you wanna discuss to emphasize on the focus of your comparison and contrast. These are all thing i will do on my health compare and contrast website essay. my thesis for the essay, Muscular dystrohpy affects millions of people world wide, and till this day doesn't have a cure. Nor a viable cause other than hereditary genetics to receive the awful health condition. i will compare the websites of causes and symptoms of muscular dystrophy and the cures and treatments of muscular dystophy to better compare and contrast the many differences and similarities of this health issue.

Chapter 11 Reading Review

CHAPTER 11 Reading Response

After reading chapter 11, I learned that comparing two things and also finding their similarities is what this compare and contrast essay is asking for. It also went over editing a comparison -and-contrast essay. Which I find very useful considering rough draft editing is my favorite part of the writing process. You need to make sure you establish a basis for comparison. From there select points of discussion, prepare thesis and start the introduction paragraph. It also discussed transitions which are very important in a compare and contrast argument due to the fact that you are comparing two things directly.

Dustin A.K.A Thrash D Thasher

Dustin A.K.A Thrash D Thrasher Interview

A few days ago I interviewed my classmate, Dustin, about a few thing that pertain to our English 121 class. During our short interview I learned quite a lot about his preferred writing styles, his previous experience with computers, what he know about our library, his goals for this class, and any problems he has with writing in general.

In my interview with Dustin I learned that he enjoys writing opinionated essays, he finds them easier to write these because he can use his opinion instead of using only facts. He also often writes poetry usually with rhyme schemes like limericks. He does most of his writing on his computer, which is good because he has taken several class in Microsoft word, excel, and power point. He can also navigate his email, as well as the internet. Dustin has only visited our library once in his two semesters at Front Range Community College, but he does know how to navigate our library.

His goals for our class are to improve in his overall writing, improve on his grammar, and to earn an A in the class. As for problems he foresees happening in this class he worries about writing review papers because he finds them difficult to write. Unfortunately I only had a short time to interview Dustin, but in that time I was able to learn a lot about him.

-Deven Burgess

Deven The Thrashmaster interview

INTERVIEW OF DEVEN THE THRASHMASTER-

After interviewing Deven, a student in my English 121 class, I learned that there are several different types of writing. For deven, he is particularly fond of persuasive style. He finds that attempting to persuade someone through writing is challenging when successful. Opinionated writing also interests deven due to being able to express himself through his very own opinion.

Deven owns his own computer. Can't really get much done without one while being in an English Class. He learned all about the library during his last semester at FRCC. He finds the library very useful and I myself need to use it more.

Like myself, deven is shooting to achieve an A in this class. he is excited about learning more and unleashing his creative spirit on paper. Planning to work closely with his organization and structure of his paragraphs, he is clearly aiming for perfection. Which is exactly how you succeed.

Review on blog "Hot Chicks Dig Smart Men"

After reviewing the blog "Hot Chicks Dig Smart Men", we were disappointed to find the first article we read was about the Women's March on Washington. Although the title may have mislead us, the content of the article in the blog was informative and an interesting. Feminists fighting other feminists about why they are or are not participating in the march. Stick together lady's. Keep things classy.
